Key takeaways

  • Deriv lists 72 methods, but you only see those available in your country
  • Mobile money starts at 5 USD; cards and Neteller start at 10 USD
  • Several mobile-money operators cap deposits at 150 USD per transaction
  • Crypto deposits must match the network shown in the cashier, e.g. eUSDT for ERC-20
  • Deposits land in the Deriv Wallet and must be transferred to MT5 or another account

What Deriv accepts

Deriv lists 72 payment methods on its public payment-methods page, grouped into cards, e-wallets, bank options, cryptocurrencies, crypto on/off-ramps, mobile money and its own peer-to-peer service, Deriv P2P. You never see all 72: the cashier only shows methods available in your country and currency. Deriv says deposits into the Wallet are free of Deriv fees.

Everything you deposit lands first in your Deriv Wallet, which can be held in US dollars or in a cryptocurrency. You then transfer from the Wallet into the platform you trade on (Deriv MT5, Deriv cTrader or the options platforms).

We have only listed limits we could see on Deriv's site. Bank methods and many local e-wallets appear on later pages of the table and vary by country, so check the cashier for those.

Choosing a method: three scenarios

You are in Kenya with 20 USD. M-Pesa is the natural choice: 5 USD minimum, up to 1,000 USD, instant both ways. Cards would work too, but you would need at least 10 USD and card withdrawals take longer. Our Kenya deposit methods guide covers the wider local picture.

You are in Ghana or Uganda with 400 USD. MTN and Airtel cap deposits at 150 USD per transaction, so you would need three transactions (150 + 150 + 100). That is fine, but check whether your operator charges per transaction. Alternatively, a single P2P order or a card payment covers it in one go.

You hold USDT on an exchange. A crypto deposit avoids card declines and exchange-rate spreads. Choose the USDT option in the cashier, copy the address, and send on the same network shown there. Note that Deriv lists a separate eUSDT option for USDT on the Ethereum ERC-20 network; sending ERC-20 USDT to an address for a different network can lose the funds permanently. If you plan to fund mainly in crypto, our list of brokers accepting crypto deposits is useful for comparison.

How to deposit, step by step

  1. Verify your profile first. Deriv's verification asks for a selfie, an ID card, driving licence or passport, and proof of address (or GPS location). You will need it before withdrawing anyway. See our Deriv account opening guide.
  2. Open your Wallet and select Deposit.
  3. Choose a method. The cashier shows the minimum and maximum for that method.
  4. Complete the payment: card details, e-wallet login, mobile-money PIN prompt, or blockchain transfer.
  5. Wait for the Wallet to be credited. Cards and e-wallets are typically instant; crypto waits for enough confirmations.
  6. Transfer to your trading account. Transfers start at 1 USD, are capped at 10,000 USD per transfer and per day in total, with up to 10 transfers daily.

Deposit fees: what you actually pay

Deriv does not charge for Wallet deposits. What remains are outside costs:

CostWhere it comes fromExample
Currency conversionYour bank or card issuer if your card is not in USDA 2.5% conversion margin on a 200 USD-equivalent deposit costs about 5 USD
Operator feeMobile-money providerVaries by operator and amount
Network feeBlockchainSet by the network at the time of sending
P2P rateThe advertiser's exchange rateA rate 1.5% worse than the market on 300 USD costs 4.50 USD

The arithmetic matters most on small deposits: a 1 USD flat fee on a 10 USD deposit is 10%, but only 1% on 100 USD.

USD Wallet or crypto Wallet?

Deriv lets you hold a Wallet in US dollars or in a cryptocurrency. The choice matters more than it looks:

  • A USD Wallet keeps your trading balance stable. If you deposit by card or mobile money in a local currency, the conversion happens once, at deposit, and your profit and loss is measured in dollars.
  • A crypto Wallet (for example BTC) means your balance moves with the coin's price even when you are not trading. A 10% fall in Bitcoin cuts a BTC-denominated balance by 10% in dollar terms.
  • Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC sit in between: crypto rails, but pegged to the dollar.

For most forex and synthetic-index traders, a USD Wallet funded by whatever method is cheapest locally is the simplest set-up. Use a crypto Wallet only if you deliberately want that exposure.

Problems and fixes

  • Card declined. Some banks block payments to trading sites. Try a different card, an e-wallet, or P2P.
  • Mobile-money prompt never arrived. Check the number format, available balance and whether the transaction exceeded the 150 USD cap that applies to several operators.
  • Crypto deposit not showing. Check the transaction on a block explorer. If it has fewer confirmations than required, wait. If you sent the wrong coin or network, contact support immediately with the transaction hash.
  • Money in Wallet but not on MT5. You still need to transfer it. Our MT5 login guide explains which account is which.

Safety notes

Only deposit through the cashier inside your Deriv account. Deriv P2P orders run inside the Deriv platform with escrow; anyone asking you to send money to a personal number "to fund your Deriv account" outside the official flow is a red flag. Read is Deriv legit for how your money is held once it arrives.

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Full risk disclosure.

Deriv Minimum Deposit by Account Type and Payment Method

Deriv's minimum deposit is 5 USD into the Deriv Wallet, but each payment method sets its own floor: mobile money such as M-Pesa starts at 5 USD, while Visa, Mastercard and Neteller start at 10 USD. There is no separate minimum per MT5 account type; you transfer from the Wallet in amounts from 1 USD.

Frequently asked questions

How do I deposit money into Deriv?

Log in, open your Deriv Wallet and choose Deposit. Pick a method shown for your country, such as a card, e-wallet, mobile money, crypto or Deriv P2P, enter the amount and complete the payment. Once the Wallet is credited, transfer the funds to your Deriv MT5, cTrader or options account to start trading.

Can I deposit on Deriv with M-Pesa?

Yes, where M-Pesa is supported. Deriv's payment-methods table lists M-Pesa with deposits and withdrawals from 5 USD up to 1,000 USD per transaction, both processed instantly. Your operator may charge its own transaction fee, so check that before sending small amounts.

Which cryptocurrencies does Deriv accept?

Deriv's help centre lists Bitcoin, Ethereum, USD Coin, Litecoin, Tether (USDT), eUSDT on the Ethereum ERC-20 network, and XRP. Each coin has its own minimum, shown in the cashier. Always send on the network displayed for the address, because a wrong network can cause permanent loss.

Why is my Deriv deposit not showing on MT5?

Deposits go to your Deriv Wallet, not straight into MT5. Open the Transfer section and move the funds from the Wallet to your MT5 account. Transfers start at 1 USD and are limited to 10,000 USD per day. If the Wallet itself is empty, check the payment status with your provider.

Does Deriv accept bank transfers?

Deriv lists bank among its deposit categories, but the specific bank options depend on your country and currency and are shown in the cashier. In many countries Deriv P2P serves as the practical route for local bank transfers, with funds held in escrow until the seller confirms payment.
